While Schinkel's facade already suggested the radical and groundbreaking structure of a skeleton construction in the context of that time, it was not really realized at the original Bauakademie due to structural and regulatory conditions. Therefore, we counter the reconstruction of the facade with the realization of the Bauakademie as a three-dimensional skeleton that creates a wide variety of spaces for flexible use. It is based on Schinkel's original grid. The components gradually become filigree from the outside to the inside. The duality of facade and inner world disappears.
Thus, the design unites the two buildings that have stood or stand on the spot: Schinkel’s Bauakademie, which is based on the 5.5x5.5 m grid, and today's trompe l'oeil, which is held by scaffolding stepped towards the center.
